The third chapter of the Yakuza series, long thought to be Japan-exclusive, has finally been confirmed for a March 2010 release in the United States.

Yakuza 3 coming to US PS3s in March

In the eight months since its initial Japanese release, gamers have been clamoring for a US release for the open-world Japan-set crime sim Yakuza 3. Sega has finally catered to the fans' wishes by confirming a March 2010 US release for PS3-exclusive Yakuza 3. Reports earlier in the year that emanated from an Examiner report had suggested that low sales of the previous Yakuza games would put the third game's localization on ice.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sega of America's Aaron Webber made it clear that the fan outcry led to a release, stating "passion and dedication has helped make this a reality." As an additional gift to the fans, he calls upon the PlayStation community to provide questions for the developers, so if you want to ask them why they're again using subtitles and forgoing an English language track (according to VG247) and depriving the world of Michael Madsen and Eliza Dusku pretending to be Japanese gang members, here's your chance.

Here's the announcement trailer, courtesy Sega of Europe, and unearthed by VG247.

HD remakes of the first two would be sweet. Then Ps3 would be the rehash system of choice. Who needs backwards compatibility?
