A new trailer reveals retro gameplay and two new playable characters.

A new trailer publicized today for the upcoming PSP version of Army of Two: The 40th Day reveals a radical regression in game design and the inclusion of unlockable characters from other EA properties.

The PSP version of 40th Day appears to be a third-person shooter in the vein of it's console counterparts, but whereas the original Army of Two featured an over-the-shoulder camera that carries over into the sequel it appears the developers on the PSP port have designed their game to take advantage of the system's limits with a fixed top-down camera. The new perspective encourages players to blast their way through waves of enemies in clear homage to classic NES shooter Contra cooperatively with a buddy or an AI partner.

Stick around 'til the end of the trailer to catch fleeting glimpses of Isaac from Dead Space and the titular Dante of Dante's Inferno, both of whom are unlockable as playable characters. If EA is cross-pollinating their signature characters like this (the European collector's edition of Dante's Inferno also includes Isaac,) can we expect to find someone like Faith (of Mirror's Edge) popping up next?

Am I the only one who thinks Dante's Inferno and Army of Two don't have enough to do with each other for this to work?

Why not? I mean, someday Spiderman and Mickey the Mouse will be fighting crimes together in the near future, right?
