EA's upcoming release for the Nintendo DS is a terrific combination of an action platformer and puzzle game. Fully utilizing the dual screens of the DS, you can switch back and forth between the two completely different worlds of Henry Hatsworth.
A Perfect Combination
Many games have tried to successfully combine genres and failed miserably, however Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure takes on this challenge and succeeds quite well. The game uses the dual screens of the DS to effectively convey the two worlds with the action portion of the game on the top screen and the puzzle portion on the bottom. Pausing the upper game takes you to the bottom screen where you can solve puzzles and gather treasure.
Killing monsters in the upper world will cause them to fall and become blocks in the puzzle area at the bottom. These blocks are constantly rising towards the top. If a monster block reaches the top it will return into the real world more powerful than before. Switching to the puzzle world will allow you to rid the grid of your monster enemies before they are able to reach the surface. The puzzles are of the standard Bejeweled type color matching ilk, but since you are constantly switching between the action and puzzle portions, it never gets boring.
Time For Tea
Henry has various weapons to help him through his adventures including bombs, dash attack, power shots, and a homing boomerang. But a man can not live on weapons alone, he needs tea! Filling up your special meter and pressing a button will put Henry into Tea Time. During Tea Time, Henry is transformed into a giant robot with its own special attacks and upgradeable weapons. Tea time is limited however, so be sure to get in as much damage as you can in the allotted time.
Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure spans across five different worlds and over thirty levels which include secrets and hidden levels. It will be released exclusively for the Nintendo DS and at this time has no set release date outside of early 2009. We will be sure to keep an eye on Henry and bring you more details on this release as they come. From what we can see so far Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure has potential to be one of the more interesting games coming out on the DS next year.
