Neopets Puzzle Adventure

Capcom and Interactive Entertainment team up to deliver a Neopets game that is a hybrid of Puzzle Quest and Othello with a Neopets theme.
Back in the day, Neopets was a small web based game with an equally small following. Fast forward to today and Neopets is a thriving franchise with several console games under its belt. Capcom and the folks from Interactive Entertainment, creators of the Puzzle Quest games, have joined forces to take the franchise into the world of puzzle-adventure games.
Using the formula that made Puzzle Quest such a huge success, Infinite Interactive has created a new world for Neopets but with a twist. Battles are still played out via challenging puzzles, but instead of a Bejeweled-like color matching system, players must use the strategy of Othello (aka Reversi). In Othello, the goal is to score points by claiming as much of the board as possible by capturing your opponent's pieces. Flanking a line of enemy tiles will allow you to change them to your own color, thus gaining control of those squares. It's a nice twist on the Puzzle Quest formula and makes the gameplay a bit more challenging.
Still Neopets
Much like Pokemon, there are tons of Neopets to collect and use during gameplay. Neopets Puzzle Adventure has 12 regular Neopets and 150 Petpets to make your own. Petpets can be equipped and used for their magical powers during battles and the 12 main Neopets can be customized and trained to your liking. Collected items can be combined through mini-games to make them more powerful and additional items can be gained by unlocking codes in the game that can be redeemed on the Neopets website.
The graphic style of the game is hand drawn and cute with many elements that Neopets fans will recognize. They also bear the unmistakable hand of Infinite Interactive, providing simple, clean gameboards that don't seem too cluttered with decoration. The character creation system is the only element that appears in 3D and will allow you to choose between the twelve types of pets, pick their color, gender and name.
Neopets Puzzle Adventure seems like a shoe in for Neopets fans that are looking for something different with the long running franchise. It's certainly an improvement over past titles in the series, and the inclusion of the Puzzle Quest gameplay brings an air of solid quality to the title. Neopets Puzzle Adventure is set to launch on November 25 on a Nintendo DS and Wii near you.
