About Me

I'm GamePro's (Former) Editorial Monkey Boy. I don't answer my mail. I like playing handheld games.

Everything's Different Now

If someone had told me what my life would be like five years ago, I'd have accused that person of being a witch and gotten out my witch repellent.

My life's awesome -- more awesome than I deserve -- but still wildly different. I don't blog as much, I'm in love with my job, and I spend what little free time I have wishing that I had more time. Someone needs to hurry up and invent that instant-full-night's-sleep-in-five-seconds doohicky from Chrono Trigger.

GamePro still keeps me busier than ever, and I love every second I'm at work. Hell, I'd even go as far to say that I'd rather be at the office than at home. Even though I've barely been around for a few months, I've put up over two-dozen articles on GP (plus about 50 on SlobsofGaming), aside from the occasional site maintenance that gets piled on. I've still got some catching up to do if I'm going to be anywhere near as good as my interns-in-arms, but it's fun being forced to step up.

Of course, I'm still playing video games as they come my way. It's been a goal of mine to not fall into the common habit of "having no time to play when you're in the industry". Now that my Yggdra Union and Dragon Quest reviews are over, I've finally gotten my hands on a copy of The World Ends With You. I was already going to buy it based on Jeremy's review, but the fact that Zero Punctuation saw fit to analyze it was just more icing on the cake. So far, I really like the game's music and combat. It's going to take forever for me to fully learn the menu and items layout, though. If only I didn't have damn college to worry about.

(On a little side note, I absolutely ABHOR the generic new intro music.)

In the last month or so, I've recently discovered that having a car in fact does make a world in difference in a young adult's life. I'm now the proud owner of a grayish, beat-up 199X Honda Civic that smells distinctly of dry laundry. While I'm not bemoaning the car's age, condition, or apparent lack of drifting power, I do have three minor quibbles with my new gasoline-powered toy.

1: Parallel parking is IMPOSSIBLE.

There are many people in the world who can do this sort of thing, and I've recently found out that I'm not one of them. I suppose there eventually had to exist some random skill at which I would naturally find myself woefully inept, but it still irks me from time to time. There's nothing in the world more embarrassing than trying to impress a girl when you're destroying mailboxes with your rear bumper.

2: It's actually a really sturdy car.

And with my frugal tendencies, I'll probably be driving this Honda ten years from now when Priuses can run on happy thoughts and owning them is San Franciscan martial law.

3: If I crash the Honda, my aunt's ghost will probably come back to haunt me.

Plus, my insurance doesn't cover a 15-year-old rice burner -- if the car gets totaled, it can't be saved. Game Over. (On the upside, my car gets GREAT all-around mileage, as expected of a Honda.)

Aside from that, I'm copy-editing, managing news stories for the San Francisco State [X]press, and taking full-time classes, which effectively kills any chance of me having a social life outside of work and home. Hopefully, I can endure another horrible holiday season with my family, win the love of my editors at GamePro, and graduate this summer with a newfound sense of poverty. Man, I love pretending to be an adult :)

Yeesh, enough about me -- what the Hell have YOU guys been up to?

How did you find out my secret? (He's right, I'm not really a guy. I'm a Japanese exchange student that GamePro pays freelance $$$ to for maintaining a fake online identity.)

    Nooooooooo~!
